No offense to strip malls, but they aren’t the most dynamic of structures. The building at 700 Baxter Street was one such example.

Built ca. 1965, this small strip mall on Baxter Street, just a few blocks from the UGA campus, was built to be functional, not showy. Its blocky, basic form and overhanging metal roof facade showed the names of the stores housed there and not much else. When its current owner, Polias Development, contacted Studio BNA about rehabbing the structure, principal architect Brett Nave thought the request would actually be to build a new building.

But with an eye toward design and a new line-up of tenants, Polias Development principal David Mulkey has brought a cheeky feel to this tired mid century building.
