Take an advance look at this Athens dance studio’s new location

After more than two decades in Athens, Canopy Studio is preparing to start its second act.

The nonprofit aerial dance and performance space, which has been in operation at 160-6 Tracy St. since 2002, has partnered with local real estate group Polias to move into a new building that will be more than

double the size of their current location. The new studio is expected to open on Ware Street in fall 2026.

Known for its diverse range of students and performers, Canopy will be in a better position to serve the community with a new studio that will be located so close to places like the Athens Council on Aging, the Lay Park Community Center, and the Lyndon House Arts Center.

As one of the largest education organizations of its kind in the eastern U.S., Canopy provides classes to more than 600 children and adults each week.

“This new space started as a dream more than 10 years ago,” Canopy Studio’s Executive Director Ann Woodruff said in a recent news release.

“And because of the generosity, hard work, and dedication of a lot of people in our community, we’re making that dream a reality.”
